This blog is a daily account, yes, daily, of the lives of Ichcha, Tapasya and Veer Singh Bundhela. Uttaran is a nighttime soap (a good one at that!) that airs on the channel Colours at 10pm every weekday.
Why "uttaran" you ask? Uttaran is "hatke"...not your run-of-the-mill soaps, the saas-bahu types (due apologies to fans of K-series). Uttaran is a tale of sacrifice, jealousy, *sniffle* family..... my eyes are moist already.
Let's do a little catchup, shall we?
CATCH-UP PART I
Uttaran starts with the tale of Ichcha, "ichkeeeee" as her "ammu" calls her. She is the 8 yr old daughter of a naukrani, who lives in a basti. Ammu, though she's actually called Damini (not Sridevi folks!), works as a naukrani in a huge bungalow (ok, an elaborate set! jeez!) of Thakur Saab and Thakurayan.
Well, if u are a naukrani, you are bound to be ill-treated aren't you! Undoubtedly, thakur saab (TS from here on) and Thakurayan (TY?) spew venom on ammu. They keep her in her "place". Ammu makes it a point to keep reminding ichkeeeee of her place in society lest she develop an "ichcha" (hee hee) for a better lifestyle.
TS and TY have a daughter, Tapasya, "Tappu" for short. The usual spoilt rich girl with lots of dolls and dresses etc etc. Did she have a pony? hmmm...hard to remember. She attends the top school in the city blah blah blah....
Tappu, surprisingly, turns affectionate towards ichkeeeee given her lack of friends (oh my diamond shoes are too tight!). So she starts sharing everything with ichkeeeee...they even eat off the same plate, yuck!
TS and TY can't understand why Tappu's friends with ichkeeeee and try to convince her otherwise. Tappu, the adamant girl she is, steadfastedly refuses...she even goes on a fast! (That was one whole episode anyway) See, uttaran does teach you values...in your faces, you cynics. :P
TS and TY have no choice but to agree...but then there's a twist in the tale...turns out, TS, once, in an accident, ran a man over and killed him. Guess, who that is...OF COURSE, it was damini's husband! Now TS and TY, overcome by guilt, accept damini in their household...they start treating her like family. How many episodes you ask, atleast 6...
Well, TS treats damini a little more than family which cause TY to "doubt" her husband's intentions...but that's for later.
As time goes by (a good 15 episodes later that is) TS treats ichkeeeee like his second daughter (or, was it first...hmmm...i really need those memory pills). This is not quite acceptable to tappu coz come on, she's his real daughter! Tappu starts becoming jealous of ichkeeeee and there sown are the seeds of this soap if they weren't already!
Tappu and ichkeeee (T&I) grow up and grow out of their pigtails, dolls and cute little frocks. Well, Tappu had a Salman poster in her room in her growing up years but that's now been replaced with Hrithik's. No offence to Salman!
T&I now attend a top college in Mumbai...i really can't remember what they majored in...
There enters our hero, Veer Singh Bundhela (VSB). VSB is unlike the rich spoilt kids of our time...he's really mellow, drives a ferrari around, helps the poor by doling out crisp 1000 rupees notes etc etc etc
VSB is now friends with T&I coz they are in the same college. VSB really takes a liking to ichkeeeee due to her sanskaar and everything...but tappu really digs VSB. Tappu's like head-over-heels for VSB and VSB secretly loves the adulation he receives. Ichkeeeee is like this coy woman, hiding behind tappu n all.
But....but....circumstances, like tappu showing up late to the movies leaving VSB and ichkeeeee alone etc kindle the romance between ichkeeeee and VSB.
